Shropshire Tourist Information
Shropshire Tourist and Visitor Information with links to heritage, nature and tourist attractions, many with brief details of disabled access. Shropshire borders with Wales and was part of the area known as the Welsh Marches, which had a large number of castles to defend against Welsh incursions. Shrewsbury the county town and administrative centre is a medieval town of Black and White buildings and jumbled streets and alleyways. Shropshire is a largely rural county, with great walking country but has a strong historic industrial past, with Ironbridge being the birthplace of the modern iron age and mass production, recognised by its World Heritage status. The county has the River Severn running through it from the Welsh border, through Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. The principal towns are Bridgnorth, Ellesmere, Ludlow, Market Drayton (The home of gingerbread), Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Telford (named after Thomas Telford) and Whitchurch
