Blackhall Rocks Local Nature Reserve - 193 acres, 500 mtr accessible trail, on Durham Coast has coastal path running through the site - see PDF Download

 

Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve - 221 hectares of woodland and lowland grassland. Parts of the reserve remain almost unaltered by man since the Ice Age. Abundant wild flowers and woodland birds - The Dene is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs due to rough paths and steep banks. Accessible toilet is available daily during office hours and other times by arrangement

Hardwick Country Park, Sedgefield - historic parkland, lake, woodland and wildlife. Cafe, shop - visitor centre is fully accessible for people with disabilities and the circuit walk is accessible to visitors of all abilities

Houghall Arboretum & Pinetum - part of East Durham College - has one of the best collections of trees in the north of England. The College is responsible for maintaining the National Collection of Sorbus Sections Aria and Micromeles.
